Councilmember Kenneth R. Bernstein has served on the Council for the Town of Golden Beach since 2007, and is currently in his fourth term.
Mr. Bernstein is a member of the Florida Bar and a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) in the State of Florida. A native Floridian, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami (1992), and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Florida (1987).
For over 20-years, he served as a Senior Vice President and General Counsel for a national real estate company, which managed and/or developed more than $10-billion in commercial and residential properties. His responsibilities included: financing matters, sales and acquisitions, contract and lease negotiations, land use matters, eminent domain work, and overseeing an extensive legal department. He assisted the financing department in obtaining and negotiating billions of dollars-worth of construction and/or permanent loans for regional malls, hotels, office buildings, self-storage facilities, strip centers, condominiums, and businesses. Additionally, he led the entitlement and development process on several projects.
Additionally, Councilmember Bernstein previously worked as an accountant with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells and later as an associate with the law firm of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, P.C. He has owned various businesses including a title company and several retail operations. From 2004 until its sale in 2013, he served as a Board of Director for Great Florida Bank, a NASDAQ company.
An active member of the South Florida community, Mr. Bernstein has been involved in numerous charitable and civic activities in Miami-Dade County including: serving as a Board Member for Aventura Hospital; a Board of Director for the Aventura Jewish Center; and a committee member of the South Florida East Coast Coalition. He has served on fundraising committees for United Way, and served as a member of the Dade Advisory Board of Extra Helpings and Daily Bread Food Bank.
