Councilmember Bernstein has served on the Town of Golden Beach Council since 2007.

 

A native Floridian, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from University of Florida and a Juris Doctor from University of Miami. He is a member of the Florida Bar and a CPA (inactive).

 

As a South Florida developer, Mr. Bernstein has been involved in numerous projects and businesses.  For over 20 years, he served as General Counsel and/or a Senior VP for Turnberry Associates.  Prior to that he worked as an accountant with Deloitte and an attorney with Buchanan Ingersoll, PC.  Mr. Bernstein has owned various businesses including a title company, several retail operations, and served on the Board of Directors for Great Florida Bank, a NASDAQ company.

 

A father of three, Councilmember Bernstein initially ran for office to improve the neighborhood for children.   Early on, he was an integral proponent for upgrading the parks and beach, constructing sidewalks, pushing forward beautification projects, and improving security throughout town.  Recently, he advocated for stronger security measures, a new town hall and civic center and spearheaded the initiative for a town-wide high speed fiber internet service.

 

Since being elected, the Golden Beach Town Council has worked harmoniously and completed over $63 million in Capital Projects, including the following:

 

  • Completed Capital Improvement Project
    • Replaced 80 year-old water distribution system
    • Installed a comprehensive stormwater system
    • Installed sidewalks and curbs throughout Town
    • Relocated overhead utilities to underground
  • Replaced bridges at Center Island and North Island
    • Secured $9 Million in federal funding for bridges.
  • Golden Beach Beautification Projects on A1A and west of the Strand.
  • Replaced Street Lights throughout Golden Beach – $3 Million from FPL

 

Councilmember Bernstein’s vision for the Town’s future includes the following:

 

  • Redevelop Tweddle Park with new recreational facilities, modernized tot lot, expanded dog park, and outdoor party space.
  • Develop a Town Wellness Center
  • Increase security cameras and modernize monitoring system
  • Additional amenities and services at the Town’s facilities
  • Reducing and/or maintaining the Town’s millage rate

 

Charitable and civic duties include: Board Member for Aventura Hospital, Board of Directors for the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, Dade Advisory Board Member of Daily Bread Food Bank, Member of the South Florida East Coast Coalition (rapid transit/Brightline stations), and Assisted opening the Humane Society’s Soffer-Fine adoption center.
